Silver foil is placed on the surface of the enamel. The piece is fired just long enough to melt the surface of the enamel so that the foil can sink into the surface and be held in place. The foil is coated with enamel and fired again, this time long enough to melt and fuse the enamel.

Shown above, a second application of foil is made using a foil of a different weight in order to give textural variation to the design.
